The 33-year-old’s first foray into conducting involved a fireside poker rather than a baton. “When I was a kid, I saw a video of Leonard Bernstein, and I used to conduct on the hearth of the fireplace,” the North Carolinian recalls. “I’ve wanted to be a conductor since I was about three.” Rogister studied at the Juilliard School and now performs in front of international audiences: in Stockholm at the Royal Swedish Opera, where last May he onducted Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin (a self-professed career high); and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, where this spring he will lead superstar soprano Renée Fleming through A Streetcar Named Desire.

Rogister wears Ermenegildo Zegna.
