Karina Canellakis Wins BBC Music Magazine Award

Conductor Karina Canellakis has won the OPERA AWARD from the 21st annual BBC Music Magazine Awards. The recording Bartók: Duke Bluebeard’s Castle with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra—released on our partner label Pentatone—was reviewed by the magazine in 2025. “Our reviewer was amazed and chilled by this concert take on Bartók’s blood-curdling masterpiece our ‘Opera Choice’ for June. Gábor Bretz and Rinat Shaham are brilliantly risk-taking in their roles, and Karina Canellakis ‘conducts the orchestra as if her life depended on it,’ we wrote.” The BBC Music Magazine Awards are the only classical music recording awards in which the main categories are voted for by the public.
