Fearless, adventurous pianist Conrad Tao in Shriver Hall recital

“Pianist” seems way too limiting a term for Conrad Tao. There should be a word that somehow captures how this guy combines, in roughly equal measure, the elements of adventurer, intellectual, charmer, poet and badass. Definitely not just another talented keyboard artist. 

Substituting on short notice for an indisposed Piotr Anderszewski, Tao brought down the house making his Baltimore recital debut April 7 for Shriver Hall Concert Series. His imaginatively organized program gave him ample opportunity to show off a fearless technique and a knack for reaching — more like grabbing — listeners, making them an intense partner in his way-beyond-the-notes exploration of music. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. He did it all barefoot.
