On the eve of its 80th anniversary,
Opus 3 Artists announces exclusive representation of
Chaplin’s MODERN TIMES with orchestra and conductor Timothy Brock

One of the foremost experts on silent-film music, Opus 3 Artists is proud to welcome Timothy Brock, music director of the Chaplin estate, for exclusive presentations of MODERN TIMES and other iconic silent films. The NY Times named the NY Philharmonic’s presentation of MODERN TIMES among its Top 10 performances of 2014.

Modern Times marked the last screen appearance of the Little Tramp, the character which had brought Charlie Chaplin world fame, and who still remains the most universally recognized fictional image of a human being in the history of art. The film survives as a commentary on human survival in the industrial, economic and social circumstances of the 20th century society. It remains as relevant, in human terms, for the 21st century. Modern Times celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2016.

Specializing in concert works of the early 20th-century and live performances of silent film, Timothy Brock is a leading authority on orchestral performance practices of the 1920's and '30's. As a composer he has written approximately 60 works for the concert stage and silent film, including 27 original scores for silent film over the course of nearly 30 years. His concert works include three symphonies, three concertos, a cantata, two operas, and a number of individual orchestral pieces. His work on Charlie Chaplin scores began in 1998 when the Chaplin estate commissioned him to restore the illustrious score to Modern Times, and he has since then restored the scores to 12 Chaplin silent features and shorts, which are also available for orchestra presentation.

Currently he is composing a new violin concerto for Stephen Bryant (BBC Symphony Orchestra) scheduled to premiere in 2016-17. And in 2016, Brock will conduct the world premiere of his long awaited new score for Fritz Lang's science-fiction epic, Frau im Mond (1929), commissioned by the Wiener Konzerthaus and premiered in Vienna with the Radio Symphonie-orchester Wien.
