The Lifetime Achievement Award for the ongoing 39th International Istanbul Music Festival will be presented this year to Gidon Kremer, one of the world’s leading and most respected violinists. The award ceremony will be organized Friday night at the Hagia Irene Museum as part of an event titled “Hommage a Glenn Gould.” Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, or IKSV, Executive Board Chairman Bülent Eczacibasi will present the award.

Afterward, Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica, a chamber orchestra he founded in 1997, will perform the Bach Transcriptions series in honor of J.S. Bach, the 18th-century composer, and Glenn Gould, Bach’s most famous interpreter.

A ceaseless contributor to the development of the contemporary music repertory thanks to the works he commissioned to living composers, Kremer has recorded more than 100 albums, many of which brought him prestigious international awards and prizes in recognition of his exceptional interpretative powers.

Kremer, who was born in Latvia and currently lives in Germany, is the author of four books that reflect his artistic philosophy.

Before the concert and award ceremony, renowned Turkish pianist Gülsin Onay will give a lecture titled “Glenn Gould and Bach.”

Tickets for the night are available at Biletix.
