Bramwell Tovey Named Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestre symphonique de Québec
It is with tremendous pride and enthusiasm that the Orchestre symphonique de Québec welcomes Maestro Bramwell Tovey as principal guest conductor for the upcoming two seasons.
“He is the very model of a modern orchestral maestro . . . . Not only is he a supremely gifted conductor and music director, a much published composer, a pianist (classical and jazz) and dreamer of big projects, he is also the bearer of a fantastic sense of humour.”
Maestro Tovey is no stranger to this orchestra. On each of his visits to Quebec’s capital, he has left musicians and audiences dazzled with his masterful musical leadership and generosity of spirit. “It’s truly a privilege,” said OSQ executive director Astrid Chouinard, “to have a conductor of such stature, and especially such a wonderful guy, to steer us through the transition between Maestro Gabel and our next music director.”
The search for a world-class musician to assume the pivotal role of music director will be a big part of the coming two seasons, a transitional period in the orchestra’s history that Maestro Tovey, one of the world’s most versatile and charismatic conductors, will lead us through.
Maestro Tovey had this to say about his new appointment: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Orchestre symphonique de Québec as principal guest conductor and artistic advisor. I have always been very impressed by the dedication and versatility of the musicians. For me, a return to Quebec City, one of the most amazing cities in North America, with its extraordinary orchestra and loyal, passionate audience, is ideal as we emerge from all these bleak months.”
The members of the orchestra and Quebec City audiences will now have the privilege—for two seasons—of welcoming and getting to know this larger-than-life conductor!
