Karina Canellakis extended as Principal Guest Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra

The London Philharmonic Orchestra announced the extension of Karina Canellakis as Principal Guest Conductor for a second term three-year term through the 26-27 season. Karina will continue to conduct a minimum of 5 concerts each season in London’s Royal Festival Hall, as well other concerts with LPO partner venues and cities in the UK. She will also tour with the orchestra in Europe, including next month to the Athens Megaron, Vienna’s Musikverein, Munich’s Ysarphilharmonie, and Essen Philharmonie.

Canellakis took up the post in September 2021 and has enjoyed many highlights so far including giving the UK premiere of Tania León’s Horizons in October 2023, the first presentation of León’s music as the LPO’s new Composer-in-Residence. Canellakis’s performance of Dvořák, Brett Dean and Brahms in October 2022 earned a 4* review in The Times in which she was praised for her ‘organised and crystal-clear direction’ allowing ‘virtuosic performances’ from LPO musicians.

Karina Canellakis is also Chief Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and an exclusive recording artist with Pentatone.
