Review: A Night In Berlin

The Sunday Times (UK)

Glorious stuff. The debonair singer/bandleader's residencies at the Admiralspalast theatre are one of Berlin's best nights out, and his sense of mischief and assured musicianship are given free rein in this splendid live recording. Raabe may have trained as a Wagnerian, but there's a delightfully impish quality to period ditties such as Marie Marie - complete with castanets - while the agile 12-piece dance orchestra can slip into modern pop mode, too. The spirit of the Comedian Harmonists enters the 21st century.
