Time For Three & Joyce DiDonato Release “Emily – No Prisoner Be” on Platoon

Time for Three and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato have released a new recording of a song cycle by Kevin Puts, Emily – No Prisoner Be on Platoon. The ensemble launches a tour to support the album on February 1 in California at the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University. The tour travels through California to the Granada Theater in Santa Barbara (UCSB Arts & Lectures) and Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley (Cal Performances), then heads to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Folly Theater in Kansas City (Harriman-Jewell Series), and Carnegie Hall as part of their United in Sound: America at 250 series. The tour wraps up at Princeton University Concerts on February 22.

The 24-part song cycle was written by Pulitzer Prize-winner and Musical America’s 2024 Composer of the Year Kevin Puts following his 2022 collaboration with DiDonato on The Hours at the Metropolitan Opera, and his concerto Contact composed for Time for Three which won the GRAMMY-award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. With lighting and stage design by Andrew Staples, the production explores the inner world of Emily Dickinson through an intimate musical dialogue between the quartet, celebrating one of literature’s most iconic voices. Time for Three and Joyce DiDonato premiered the new song cycle last year at the Bregenzer Festspiele.

The album is out now on all streaming platforms.
