The Vienna Girls Choir Joins the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle

Beginning in September 2026, the Vienna Girls Choir will become a permanent part of the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle, performing alternately with the four choirs of the Vienna Boys Choir at Sunday masses in the Imperial Chapel. The Vienna Girls Choir will further enhance the artistic profile of the Vienna Court Orchestra with their highly skilled choral performances. They will make their debut on September 20,  2026.

With a history spanning 528 years, the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle is one of the world’s oldest musical institutions. Founded in 1498, it is a cultural institution and music ensemble based in the Imperial Chapel in Vienna’s Hofburg Palace. It consists of the Vienna Boys Choir, members of the Vienna State Opera’s men’s chorus and the Vienna State Opera’s orchestra, the Gregorian Chant ensemble Choralschola, and now the Vienna Girls Choir.

Emerging from Vienna’s long choral tradition, the Vienna Girls Choir continues the Vienna Boys Choir’s legacy of excellence with a distinct voice and vision of its own. Founded in 2004 with just a handful of singers, the ensemble has since flourished into a full-fledged choir of 25 girls between the ages of 10 and 14. Since September 2024, the singers have been official students at Campus Augarten, where they receive the same rigorous musical training as members of the Vienna Boys Choir — including singing lessons, choir rehearsals, solo work, voice training sessions, concerts, and tours.
