Conductor Gergely Madaras Joins the Roster

We are thrilled to welcome conductor Gergely Madaras to our roster for North America, joining our colleagues at Askonas Holt as his general management.

Gergely Madaras has served as Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège since 2019, leading the ensemble in acclaimed performances across Europe and South America, with regular broadcasts on Mezzo and Medici.tv and recordings for Alpha, BIS, Fuga Libera, and Palazzetto Bru Zane. Born in Budapest in 1984, last month he was named ‘Conductor of the Year’ at the Bartok Radio Awards in recognition of his support and championing of Hungarian composers.

Recent and upcoming guest appearances include the London Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, NHK Symphony, Philharmonia, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, BBC Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic, and São Paulo State Symphony. This season has also seen returns to the WDR Sinfonieorchester, BBC NOW, NHK Symphony, and debuts with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Bavarian State Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (London), among others.

A former Sir Charles Mackerras Fellow at English National Opera, Madaras made his operatic debut with Die Zauberflöte at the London Coliseum and has since conducted at Dutch National Opera, La Monnaie, the Hungarian State, and Grand Théâtre de Genève.

Deeply committed to new music, he has worked closely with composers including Pierre Boulez, Péter Eötvös, George Benjamin, and György Kurtág. His festival credits include Lucerne, Gstaad, Enescu, and Festival d’Automne à Paris, and he has recorded with major ensembles including the BBC Symphony and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
