
Soprano Jana McIntyre is a George and Nora London Foundation Award Winner and a finalist in The Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition. In the 25/26 season, she makes her debut with Detroit Opera in The Handmaid’s Tale (Janine/Ofwarren) and returns to Bard SummerScape for Die ägyptische Helena (Aithra) and San Francisco Opera for Parsifal (Flower Maiden). On the concert stage, she debuts with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2.
Last season, McIntyre debuted at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Tytania) and at Orpheus PDX in Il sogno di Scipione (Fortuna), and returned to Opera Santa Barbara in La fille du régiment (Marie). She also made her debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic as soprano soloist in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, with performances in Los Angeles, New York, and Bogotá. Additional orchestral highlights included her debut with the New York Philharmonic in Boulez’s Pli selon pli: Improvisations sur Mallarmé I & II (conducted by David Robertson); a return to Bard Music Festival for Martinů’s Petrklíč; and performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 and Strauss’s Four Last Songs with The Orchestra Now. She also debuted with the Erie Philharmonic in Handel’s Messiah and with the Grant Park Music Festival in Carmina Burana.
McIntyre joined the roster of San Francisco Opera for Die Zauberflöte and Innocence, debuted with Toledo Opera and Opera Grand Rapids in Die Zauberflöte (Königin der Nacht), with Arizona Opera in Le nozze di Figaro (Barbarina), and with The Santa Fe Opera in Jenůfa (Jano). Additional appearances include Bard SummerScape in Die schweigsame Frau (Aminta) and Tulsa Opera in Don Giovanni (Zerlina), Into the Woods (Cinderella), and Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince (Water). A frequent collaborator with Opera Santa Barbara, she has sung the title role in Semele, and appeared in La Divina: The Art of Maria Callas, La scala di seta (Giulia), and Don Pasquale (Norina).
With The Rally Cat in New York City, she created the role of Marianne in the workshop and recording of Aferidan Stephens and Marella Martin Koch’s Elinor and Marianne, based on Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. She also appeared in Heartbeat Opera’s Der Freischütz (Ännchen) and participated in The Santa Fe Opera’s New York workshop of the completed version of Huang Ruo’s M. Butterfly.
A seasoned concert performer, McIntyre has sung Carmina Burana with the Seattle Symphony, Santa Barbara Symphony, and New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and performed with the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra in their Rodgers & Hammerstein Celebration. She made her Carnegie Hall debut with the American Symphony Orchestra in Strauss’s Daphne (title role), conducted by Leon Botstein, and has appeared in chamber performance with Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate and Tulsa’s Signature Symphony.
McIntyre is the recipient of awards from the Gerda Lissner Foundation, the Jensen Foundation, and the Shoshana Foundation. She was a Young Artist with the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera and an Apprentice Artist with The Santa Fe Opera.
