
Tenor Duke Kim is a Second-Place Winner of Operalia (2022), Second-Place Winner at the inaugural Juan Pons International Singing Competition (2022), Grand Finals Winner of The Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition (2021), and a recent graduate of the Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera.
Highlights of the 25/26 season include debuts at Semperoper Dresden and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in Roméo et Juliette (Roméo), Teatro de la Maestranza in Lucrezia Borgia (Genaro), Houston Grand Opera in Silent Night (Lieutenant Sprink), Teatr Wielki in La traviata (Alfredo), and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in a staged production of the Mozart Requiem. On the concert stage, he debuts with Washington Concert Opera in Les pêcheurs de perles (Nadir). Future engagements include debuts with Opéra National de Lyon and Canadian Opera Company and returns to LA Opera and The Metropolitan Opera.
In 24/25, Duke made his Metropolitan Opera debut in The Magic Flute (Tamino) and LA Opera debut in Roméo et Juliette (Roméo). He returned to Irish National Opera for L’elisir d’amore (Nemorino) and Seattle Opera for Die Zauberflöte (Tamino) and made his mainstage debut at The Santa Fe Opera in Rigoletto (Duke). In concert, he appeared at the Sag Harbor Song Festival, debuted with the Handel and Haydn Society in the M. Haydn and Mozart Requiems, and returned to the Korean Music Association as a guest soloist.
Duke previously debuted with Irish National Opera and Berkshire Opera Festival in Faust (Faust), Pittsburgh Opera in La traviata (Alfredo), and returned to Washington National Opera for his mainstage debut in Roméo et Juliette (Roméo). He also appeared with Seattle Opera and Des Moines Metro Opera in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Il Conte d’Almaviva). On the concert stage, he made his South American debut at Teatro Colón in Messiah, gave a solo recital for the Korean Music Association, and performed a duet recital with mezzo-soprano Taylor Raven at Seattle Opera.
Notable early engagements include debuts with Seattle Opera in La traviata (Alfredo); The Glimmerglass Festival, Florentine Opera, and Opera San Antonio in Roméo et Juliette (Roméo); and The Atlanta Opera in Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio). He also returned to Palm Beach Opera for Così fan tutte (Ferrando) and The Merry Widow (Count Camille de Rosillon). On the concert stage, he appeared with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in Messiah; the National Symphony Orchestra under Gianandrea Noseda in Messiah, Mozart Requiem and Eine kleine Freimaurer-Kantate, and Bach Magnificat; The Santa Fe Symphony for A Night at the Opera; and Grant Park Music Festival in Haydn’s Creation. In his second summer as a Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Artist, he appeared in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Lysander), covered Eugene Onegin (Lenski), and was featured as a guest soloist on Angel Blue in Concert (Act IV duet from La bohème).
Duke has participated in training programs at The Santa Fe Opera, Académie du Festival Aix-en-Provence, Wolf Trap Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Aspen Music Festival, and Des Moines Metro Opera. He is a graduate of Chapman University and the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he performed in Gianni Schicchi (Rinuccio), Little Women (Laurie), and La finta giardiniera (Count Belfiore). His additional concert repertoire includes Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Saint-Saëns’s Oratorio de Noël.
