Ukrainian-Canadian soprano Andriana Chuchman has earned acclaim for performances spanning a wide range of repertoire, from Mozart and Handel to 20th-century masterpieces, contemporary opera, and world premieres. In the 2026/27 season, she makes her Calgary Opera debut in Massenet’s Cendrillon (title role) and returns to the Canadian Opera Company for La traviata (Violetta), a role she also performs with Vancouver Opera and Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra. On the concert stage, she makes her Monterey Symphony debut as the soprano soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, returns to the Kansas City Symphony for Handel’s Messiah and to her hometown of Winnipeg for Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and tours Canada with the Axios Men’s Ensemble as part of the Ukrainian War Requiem National Tour.
Ms. Chuchman has appeared with leading opera companies including The Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, The Dallas Opera, LA Opera, San Diego Opera, Washington National Opera, The Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Omaha, Glyndebourne Festival Tour, Salzburg Whitsun Festival, and Hamburg State Opera. In her native Canada, she has appeared with the Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera, Manitoba Opera, Pacific Opera Victoria, and Edmonton Opera. Her repertoire includes Rigoletto (Gilda), I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Giulietta), La fille du régiment (Marie), L’elisir d’amore (Adina), Giulio Cesare (Cleopatra), Le nozze di Figaro (Susanna), Hansel and Gretel (Gretel), The Merry Widow (Valencienne), Orphée et Eurydice (title role), and Gianni Schicchi (Lauretta).
She has also garnered acclaim for her work in contemporary opera, including Joby Talbot’s The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Sandrine/Mercédès), Jake Heggie’s It’s a Wonderful Life (Mary), John Adams’s Nixon in China (Pat Nixon) and A Flowering Tree (Kumudha), and the world premiere of Jack Perla’s Shalimar the Clown (Boonyi/India). Her repertoire also extends to musical theatre, with performances in Show Boat (Magnolia) and Camelot (Guinevere).
In concert, Ms. Chuchman has appeared at Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival in staged performances of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, as well as with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Cincinnati May Festival, and Ravinia Festival.
Born in Winnipeg, Ms. Chuchman holds a bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance from the University of Manitoba. She is an alumna of the Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago and San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program. Her honors include San Francisco Opera’s 2019 Emerging Star of the Year, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’s 2017 Mabel Dorn Reeder Award, and a prize at the finals of the 2009 Neue Stimmen Competition in Germany.
