Tenor Siyabonga Maqungo Joins the Opus 3 Artists Europe Roster
South African tenor Siyabonga Maqungo has joined the vocal division of Opus 3 Artists Europe for worldwide general concert management.
Siyabonga Maqungo joined the ensemble at Theater Chemitz at the beginning of the 2018/19 season. In autumn 2018 he made his debut at the Leipzig Opera as Conte Almaviva in “Il barbiere di Siviglia” and was invited to return the following season. In April 2019 he made his sensational debut as David in “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin under Daniel Barenboim’s baton.
In 2019 Maqungo was nominated for “Young Singer of the Year” at the International Opera Awards. He was also awarded the 2nd Price at the International Opera Competition of Portofino.
Other recent highlights include singing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Minnesota Orchestra in the US and South Africa and Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem” in Dresden, Leipzig, Johannesburg and Cape Town with the Youth Orchestra of Saxonia. In 2017 he gave his celebrated debut as Tamino in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” at the Oper Burg Gars (Austria).
