“Percussion is physical, its performance a dance as much as a production of sound, and the Colin Currie Quartet impressed from the first notes to the last, seeming to move as a single being.”

The Journal of Music

“Colin Currie, Owen Gunnell, Adrian Spillett and Sam Walton generated excitement from the rhythms of Steve Reich’s Drumming (Part 1).”

London Evening Standard

“The biggest thrill of all, for me, was hearing how Part One of Steve Reich’s Drumming can sound in the Albert Hall… it’s not possible to play this piece more vibrantly and precisely than these four did.”

The Arts Desk

“…it was a feat of musicianship, almost unbelievable and breathtaking technical skill rivalling the most extreme of acrobats, daredevil motorcyclists or demanding magical coordination and muscular energy… I was bewitched and hypnotised.”

The Shift Norwich

Colin Currie formed the Colin Currie Quartet in 2018 to present the diverse works written for percussion quartet. Comprising the four core members of the Colin Currie Group, this new collective performs works by Steve Reich and other composers who have been swept along by Reich’s highly influential force. Their 2018/19 debut season performances include the NCPA Beijing and Wigmore Hall, among others and the dominant premiere in their first season is a substantial new work for four marimbas by Kevin Volans. As some of the world’s leading solo, symphonic and chamber percussionists each player of the quartet brings a different and insightful slant to the art of chamber percussion performance. Critics raved about the Quartet’s performence at the BBC Proms as part of the 40th Anniversary of the BBC Young Musician of the Year celebration.
