American bass Arthur Woodley has appeared with prestigious opera companies around the U.S. and abroad, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, Seattle Opera, L\u2019Opera de Montreal, Opera Philadelphia, Dallas Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Pittsburgh, Opera, New Orleans Opera, and Opera Theatre of St. Louis.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>His many roles have included Varlaam in\u00a0Boris Godunov<\/i>, Bartolo in\u00a0Le nozze di Figaro<\/i>, the Four Villains in\u00a0Les Contes d\u2019Hoffman<\/i>, Kuno in\u00a0Die Freisch\u00fctz<\/i>, Banquo in\u00a0Macbeth<\/i>, Nick Shadow in\u00a0The Rake\u2019s Progress<\/i>, Sulpice in\u00a0La Fille du R\u00e9giment<\/i>, Leporello in\u00a0Don Giovanni<\/i>, Rocco in\u00a0Fidelio,\u00a0<\/i>Publio in\u00a0La Clemenza di Tito<\/i>, Rocco in\u00a0Fidelio<\/i>, Angelotti in\u00a0Tosca,\u00a0<\/i>Achillas in\u00a0Guilio Cesare,\u00a0<\/i>and Dansker in\u00a0Billy Budd.\u00a0<\/i>Woodley created the role of Dick Hallorann in Paul Moravec\u2019s\u00a0The Shining\u00a0<\/i>at the Minnesota Opera and Emile Griffith in\u00a0Champion\u00a0<\/i>at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis.<\/p>\n Mr. Woodley also has a distinguished history with the role of Porgy in\u00a0Porgy and Bess<\/i>. He sang the role in concert with the San Francisco Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, and on tour in Italy, including Santa Cecilia in Rome, with Yuri Temirkanov. In staged performances, he has appeared with the Opera Philadelphia, Indianapolis Opera, Opera Colorado, Bregenz Festival, the Savolinna International Festival in Finland, and the Catfish Row Opera Company of Charleston, South Carolina, in a gala celebration of the 50th anniversary of the opera\u2019s debut.<\/p>\n In concert, Mr. Woodley has appeared with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Houston Symphony, Modesto Symphony, the US Naval Academy, the American Composers Orchestra in Carnegie Hall, the Collegiate Chorale at Lincoln Center, and at the Bard Music Festival.
