Mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce has been announced as the recipient of the Music Academy of the West’s 2026 Alumni Performance Award. The award is sponsored by Kandy Bugor and the Luria\/Budgor Family Foundation.<\/p>\n

As the award’s recipient, Pierce will make her recital debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on April 15th, 2027, in a performance featuring the world premiere of a new commission by composer Carlos Simon. She will be joined by pianist and fellow Music Academy of the West alum Bin Yu Sanford to perform a program entitled “What Remains: The Art of Surrender.”<\/p>\n

A three-time fellow of the Music Academy of the West, Pierce’s 2025\/26 season began with her return to The Metropolitan Opera, where she performed in the world premiere of Mason Bates’ The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier & Clay. Other highlights of this season include Pierce’s debut with the LA Opera, the Semperoper Dresden, and the Santa Fe Opera.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am deeply honored to receive the Alumni Performance Award from the Music Academy of the West,” adds Pierce. “My time at the Academy was profoundly formative in my development as a young musician, and to be recognized by an institution that played such a pivotal role in shaping my artistic path is truly meaningful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pierce has won top prizes at the Operalia competition, the Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers, the Dallas Opera National Vocal Competition, and the Butler Opera International Voice Competition. Her future performance seasons will include appearances in leading roles at the Houston Grand Opera and the Santa Fe Opera. She is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Bard College Conservatory of Music.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
