Violinist Simone Porter<\/strong><\/a> has been nominated for the BBC Music<\/em> Magazine 2026 Newcomer Award<\/strong> for her solo debut album ad tendo<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, released on Bright Shiny Things. “Simone Porter delivers a poignantly focused recital shaped by Simone Weil\u2019s belief that, \u2018Attention taken to its highest degree is the same thing as prayer\u2019. Spanning music from Hildegard of Bingen to Reena Esmail and beyond, the album demands deep listening<\/strong> with performances that are \u2018completely secure in the technical demands of the music.\u2019”<\/strong><\/p>\n

We also celebrate two additional BBC Music<\/em> Magazine nominees from our roster. Karina Canellakis’s<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0recording Bart\u00f3k: Duke Bluebeard\u2019s Castle<\/em> with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong><\/a>\u2014released on our partner label Pentatone<\/strong><\/a>\u2014was nominated for Best Opera Recording. <\/strong>“Our reviewer was amazed and chilled by this concert take on Bart\u00f3k\u2019s blood-curdling masterpiece our \u2018Opera Choice\u2019 for June. The nomination follows Simone Porter’s weeklong residency with New Century Chamber Orchestra<\/strong>, where she led students from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music<\/strong><\/a>, with whom we are proud to partner. San Francisco Classical Voice<\/em><\/a> called her \u201cabsolutely the perfect choice,\u201d<\/strong> noting her ability to both inspire students and curate a compelling concert experience.<\/p>\n

Porter\u2019s upcoming engagements include performances at the 92nd Street Y <\/a><\/strong>and Swarthmore College<\/a><\/strong> with Third Coast Percussion<\/strong> and electronic music composer Jlin<\/strong>, featuring Simone and TCP playing Lou Harrison\u2019s rarely performed violin and percussion concerto inspired by the Javanese gamelan, along with a world premiere by Jlin and works by Jessie Montgomery.<\/p>\n
