We are delighted to welcome Bass-Baritone Jongwon Han to the roster for general management. Hailed for his \u201csmoothly powerful\u201d and \u201cexcellent\u201d voice, the Korean bass-baritone is making a name for himself as one of the top young artists on the rise.<\/p>\n
Currently an Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera, Mr. Han made his debut there in the summer of 2023 as The Bonze in\u00a0Madama Butterfly<\/em>\u00a0and has since appeared as the Colline in\u00a0Boh\u00e8me Out of the Box<\/em>, 3rd<\/sup> and 4th<\/sup> Noble in Lohengrin, <\/em>Sprecher in Die Zauberfl\u00f6te, <\/em>and covers of Der Einarmige in Die Frau ohn Shatten, <\/em>Ferrando in Il Trovatore <\/em>and Belcore in L\u2019elisir d\u2019amore. <\/em>During the 24\/25 season he appears as Tom in Un Ballo in Maschera <\/em>and covers both Escamillo in Carmen <\/em>and the bass soloist in the Beethoven Symphony No. 9, \u00a0<\/em>and will be featured in both the San Francisco Opera\u2019s annual Opera in the Park concert and the Adler Fellowship\u2019s annual Rising Stars concert.<\/p>\n Other engagements this season include Colline and Sprecher with Opera Naples, The Bonze at the Utah Opera, and concerts in Hawaii.<\/p>\n Mr. Han made his professional debut at the Vernazza Opera Festival (Cinque Terre, Italy) and has been featured in concerts in Osaka, Japan, Seoul, South Korea, and New York City. Other recent engagements have included his debuts at the Atlanta Opera as Schaunard in La boh\u00e9me <\/em>and at the Palm Beach Opera as the Bonze, Bartolo cover in Il barbiere di Siviglia <\/em>at the Santa Fe Opera, and concert performances of Handel\u2019s Messiah <\/em>with Dayton Opera, Beethoven Symphony No. 9 <\/em>and Penderecki\u2019s Credo <\/em>at the Oregon Bach Festival, Haydn\u2019s Theresienmesse <\/em>and Mozart\u2019s Sparrow Mass <\/em>with the New Choral Society, and Bach\u2019s Cantata BVW 140 in Seoul.<\/p>\n Mr. Han won Third Prize at the 2022 Operalia World Opera Competition and was a Grand Finalist in the 2021 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, among other notable awards.<\/p>\n Mr. Han received his Bachelor of Music Degree from Seoul National University, his master\u2019s degree at the Mannes School of Music, and studied at The Juilliard School in the Artist Diploma in Opera Studies program.
