Opus 3 Artists is delighted to announce that innovative and arresting Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale has joined our roster for North America.<\/p>\n
Under the musical direction of Richard Egarr in his second season as Music Director, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale (PBO) is recognized as \u201cAmerica\u2019s leading historically informed ensemble\u201d (The New York Times<\/em>). The PBO’s programming emphasizes the creation and presentation of both old and new music, a hallmark of the ensemble\u2019s versatility. Performing on period instruments, PBO presents repertoire ranging from early Baroque to late Romantic, as well as new works and major operatic productions. The ensemble engages audiences through its signature Bay Area series, national and international tours, recordings, commissions, and education programs. It is the largest ensemble of its kind in the United States.<\/p>\n PBO\u2019s musicians are leaders in historical performance and the ensemble welcomes eminent guest artists including mezzo-sopranos Susan Graham and Anne Sofie von Otter, countertenors Anthony Roth Costanzo and Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, cellist Steven Isserlis, and maestros Jonathan Cohen and Jeannette Sorrell. Among the most recorded orchestras in the world, PBO boasts a discography of nearly 50 recordings, including a GRAMMY-nominated recording of Haydn symphonies. They enjoy longstanding artistic collaborations with the Mark Morris Dance Group and the American Modern Opera Company (AMOC), and appear regularly at Disney Hall, Lincoln Center, Norfolk Chamber Festival and Tanglewood. PBO also maintains a partnership with The Juilliard School where Richard Egarr is on faculty in the historical performance division.The partnership includes ensemble coaching, one-on-one mentoring, and side-by-side performances with members of the Orchestra and Juilliard’s premiere ensemble J415.<\/p>\n Philharmonia celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. It was founded by Laurette Goldberg and led by Music Director Laureate Nicholas McGegan for the past 35 years.
