Opus 3 Artists proudly welcomes the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company for exclusive representation throughout North America. Recognized as one of the most innovative and powerful forces in modern dance, the Company was born out of an eleven-year collaboration between Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane (1948-1988). During that time, they redefined the duet form and foreshadowed issues of identity, form and social commentary that would forever change the face of American dance. The Company emerged onto the international stage in 1983 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with the world premiere of Intuitive Momentum, featuring legendary drummer Max Roach.

Over three decades later, the nine-member ensemble has now performed in over 200 cities and 30 countries on every major continent. It is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including New York Dance and Performance Awards (“Bessie”) and was a nominee for the 1999 Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance and Best New Dance Production. The Company celebrated its landmark 20th anniversary by returning home to the Brooklyn Academy of Music joined by 37 special guest artists including Susan Sarandon, Cassandra Wilson and Vernon Reid. During the Company’s 25th anniversary, the Ravinia Festival (Highland Park, IL) offered its most significant commission to date: to create a work in honor of the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. The making of one of the resulting productions, Fondly Do We Hope… Fervently Do We Pray (2009), became the subject of a feature-length documentary entitled A Good Man which was broadcast on PBS’ American Masters in 2011. Most recently, the Company commemorated their 30th anniversary with the mounting of an exhibit by the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco, CA) which highlighted significant pieces by visual artists and designers that have played integral roles in the Company’s works since its formation.

At the creative helm of the Company is Artistic Director, Co-Founder, and Choreographer Bill T. Jones. An icon and visionary in the world of modern dance and beyond, Mr. Jones is the recipient of the 2014 Doris Duke Artist Award; the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors; a 2010 Tony Award for Best Choreography of the critically acclaimed FELA!; a 2007 Tony Award, 2007 Obie Award, and 2006 Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation CALLAWAY Award for his choreography for Spring Awakening; the 2010 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award; the 2007 USA Eileen Harris Norton Fellowship; the 2006 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Choreography for The Seven; the 2005 Wexner Prize; the 2005 Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement; the 2005 Harlem Renaissance Award; the 2003 Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize; and the 1994 MacArthur “Genius” Award. Mr. Jones has been recognized by the French government as Officier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and in 2000, The Dance Heritage Coalition named Mr. Jones “An Irreplaceable Dance Treasure.”
