Austin, January 26, 2010 –The Miró Quartet is thrilled to announce the release of their newest recording, a live CD featuring works inspired by the American landscape.  Recorded before a live audience at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas, the disc features the world premiere recording of Kevin Puts’ “Credo”, a work commissioned for the Miró Quartet.  Also on the recording is the much-loved “American” quartet by Antonin Dvorak.  This marks the first live recording by the Miró Quartet, as well as the first release in partnership with Longhorn Music and Naxos distribution.  

Exciting Concerts in 2010
The Miró Quartets continues extensive touring in 2010 performing throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.  Highlights include the closing concert of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Beethoven Quartet Cycle at Alice Tully Hall in February, performances with pianist Shai Wosner and cellist Lynn Harrell, and a tour of Japan.  While maintaining a busy international touring schedule, the Miró Quartet continues to be committed to teaching at the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music where they recently launched a competitive Graduate String Quartet Program.  For more information on the Miró Quartet’s performances and teaching activities, please visit www.miroquartet.com

The Miró Quartet, one of America's highest-profile chamber groups enjoys its place at the top of the international chamber music scene garnering praise from audiences and critics alike.  Founded in 1995 at the Oberlin Conservatory, the Miró Quartet met with immediate success winning first prizes at the Coleman, Fischoff, and Banff competitions as well as the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award.  The Miró Quartet was also a recipient of the Cleveland Quartet Award and was the first ensemble ever to be awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant.  Regularly invited to perform at the world’s most celebrated concert halls, the Miró Quartet has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic’s Kammermusiksaal, and Amersterdam’s Concertgebouw among many others.   A favorite of summer music festivals, the Quartet has frequently appeared at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Chamber Music Northwest, and the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival.  Deeply committed to music education, the Miró Quartet is currently the Faculty String Quartet-in-Residence at the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin.  For more information, please visit www.miroquartet.com
