Born in Tel Aviv, son of Chaim Taub, the former Concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Yaron Traub initially studied piano. After going to London in 1990 to study conducting, he went to train with Sergiu Celibidache in Munich. His path then led him to Daniel Barenboim, first as his assistant at the Bayreuth Festival, which was followed by his appointment as Associate Conductor with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, a position he held from 1994 to 1999.
Winning the Orchestra Prize in 1998 at the 4th International Kondrashin Conducting Competition in Amsterdam was followed by an extensive guest-conducting period, which took him to numerous orchestras worldwide including the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, the Swedish Radio Symphony and the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest of Holland. Further in Australia with the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, the orchestra of the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome, L'Orchestre National de Lyon, the Düsseldorf Symphony, the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
In Spain he conducted the symphony orchestras in Bilbao, Seville, Barcelona, Tenerife, La Coruña, Asturias and Gran Canaria prior to being elected, with absolute majority, by the Orquesta de Valencia as Principal Conductor and Artistic Director.
Yaron Traub works regularly with some of the world's best-known soloists such as Daniel Barenboim, Gidon Kremer, Radu Lupu, Alfred Brendel, Waltraud Meier, Robert Holl, Emanuel Ax, Hélène Grimaud, Truls Mørk, Julian Rachlin and Nikolaj Znaider.
