American tenor Jay Hunter Morris begins Season 2016-17 in revival performances of one of his greatest roles: Captain Ahab Moby-Dick at Dallas Opera where this highly successful Jake Heggie opera originated.  He joins San Francisco Symphony for the part of Lazarus in John Adams’s The Gospel according to the other Mary and repeats the part with St Louis Symphony at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Returning to the Metropolitan Opera of New York Mr. Morris appears as Erik Der Fliegende Holländer and travels to China to appear as Tristan Tristan und Isolde at NCPA in Beijing under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach; he also sings the role at Theatro Municipal de Sao Paulo, Brasil.

Recent highlights include his appearance at Los Angeles Opera as Captain Ahab Moby-Dick, also at San Francisco Opera, State Opera of South Australia (for the Adelaide Festival), and at San Diego Opera.  At Opera Philadelphia he revived the role of Teague Cold Mountain in which he previously had great success in its world premiere at Santa Fe Opera.  He traveled to Warsaw to appear in the title role of a new production of Tristan und Isolde by Mariusz Trelinsky at Polish National Opera, a role he sang in the past in Valencia with Zubin Mehta.  Glimmerglass Festival honored the artist as its 2016 Artist In Residence and he also appeared as Judge Danforth The Crucible.
