For his European debut in 2002, he sang Otello at the Teatro Maestranza in Seville. He has since appeared at the Berliner Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Hamburg, Sächsische Staatsoper (Dresden), Bayerische Staatsoper, Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris, L’Opera de Nice, L'Opera de Montpellier, Teatro Real (Madrid), Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Opera Australia. In North America, he has appeared with the Seattle Opera, San Diego Opera, and Tulsa Opera, and at the Caromoor Festival and the Hollywood Bowl.
A native of New York, Mr. Porretta received his musical training at the Juilliard School of Music.
