Moscow-born Elena Bashkirova comes from a musical family. She studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in the master class of her father, the noted pianist and music teacher Dmitri Bashkirov. She is a frequent guest with many major international orchestras, collaborating with such illustrious conductors as Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, and Christoph von Dohnányi. In addition to the Classical and Romantic repertoire, Elena Bashkirova's interests also include 20th-century music, and she has performed several world premieres. Chamber music and lieder accompaniment also form an important part of her work. In 1998 Elena Bashkirova founded the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival (JCMF), which takes place annually in September. Elena Bashkirova is a regular guest with such well-known orchestras as the Munich Philharmonic, The Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestras of the NDR (Hamburg), the WDR (Cologne) and Berlin, the Hallé Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Spanish National Orchestra Madrid, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the Chicago, the Dallas, the Washington and the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Another important destination for extended concert tours is Asia, where Elena Bashkirova has already performed with e. g. the China Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra Taipeh. Conductors she has worked with are, among others, Sergiu Celibidache, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Christoph von Dohnányi, Andris Nelsons, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Semyon Bychkow, James Conlon, Lawrence Foster, Claus Peter Flor, David Robertson and Michael Gielen.
Besides the classical and romantic repertoire, Elena Bashkirova is an advocate of the 20th century music. She participated in several world premieres.
From the very beginning of her career she has intensively devoted herself to chamber music. Particular mention should be made of her partnership with Gidon Kremer, with whom she gave concerts as a duo-partner at all major international festivals, as well as making numerous recordings with him.
As an accompanist she is working together with famous singers such as Dorothee Röschmann, Stella Doufexis, Robert Holl, Roman Trekel, Dietrich Henschel, Thomas Quasthoff, and Anna Netrebko.
In 1998 Elena Bashkirova founded the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival. As its artistic director, she organizes a chamber music event which takes place annually in September with internationally acclaimed artists. After more than 10 years of its existence, the festival has become a constant part of Israel's cultural life. Regular guest performances of the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival Ensemble e. g. in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Paris, London, Vienna, Lisbon, Budapest, New York and Chicago as well as at famous international summer festivals like Lucerne, Rheingau, Bad Kissingen, Menton, Stresa, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have established the festival also abroad.
