American soprano, Alyson Cambridge, has been hailed by critics as "radiant, vocally assured, dramatically subtle and compelling, and artistically imaginative" (Washington Post). Her rich, warm soprano, combined with her strikingly beautiful stage presence and her affecting musical and dramatic interpretation, have brought her success on the opera stages of leading theatres in the United States as well as future debuts in Paris, Berlin, and other musical capitols in Europe and Asia. Her lyric soprano repertoire includes the roles of Mimi, Violetta, Liu, Manon, Marguerite, Donna Elvira, Contessa, and Micaëla, among others.
Ms. Cambridge's 2010-11 season includes two European debuts - first with Polish National Opera as Violetta in La traviata, then as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with Savonlinna Opera Festival. Ms. Cambridge also returns to Lyric Opera of Kansas City as Micaëla in Carmen and to The Metropolitan Opera for La bohème. In November, she performs in a prestigious recital for the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court with tenor Matthew Polenzani. Her work in concert this season begins with her debut with the National Symphony Orchestra at the J.F. Kennedy Center in a New Year's Eve Gala, followed by her Paris debut at the Festival de Saint-Denis in performances of Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1 & 5, and performances of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the Alabama Symphony. Highlights of the 2011-12 season include her debuts with Deutsche Oper Berlin as Donna Elvira, with Lyric Opera of Chicago as Giulietta in Les Contes d'Hoffmann and as Julie in Show Boat, and as with Hungarian National Opera as Mimi in La bohème.

The 2009-10 season marked Alyson Cambridge's debut with Portland Opera as Musetta and her return to Washington National Opera as Clara in Francesca Zambello's production of Porgy and Bess. That same season, she made her debut with Opera Cleveland as Donna Elvira. Her work in concert that season included performances in New York and Sun Valley, Idaho, and she toured in recital in support of her 2010 debut CD release of William Bolcom's song cycle, From the Diary of Sally Hemings, including the New York premiere at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. Her season concluded with her debut with the San Francisco Symphony in a program of songs and arias.
The young American soprano is a frequent guest of the Metropolitan Opera. Her debut came in 2004 under the baton of James Levine as Frasquita in Carmen - a performance for which The New York Times noted her "powerful, clear voice". Ms. Cambridge's recent work with the MET includes performances as Crobyle in a new production of Thaïs, conducted by Jesús López-Cobos, and as Bianca in Nicolas Joël's new production of La Rondine, conducted by Marco Armiliato. Both productions were broadcast live in high-definition to cinemas around the world. Other MET roles include Karolka in Jenufa, Flowermaiden in Parsifal, and Giannetta in L'Elisir d'amore.
Ms. Cambridge has performed extensively in opera throughout North America. Highlights of past seasons include Clara in Porgy and Bess with Washington National Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, and Los Angeles Opera. A favorite at Washington National Opera, she was also Musetta in a new production of La bohème. Soon after, she made her company and role debut as Mimì in La bohème with Boston Lyric Opera and sang the role for her debut with Lyric Opera of Kansas City and with Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Also with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, she has sung the title role in Gounod's Romeo et Juliette. Her first performances as Donna Elvira were with Portland Opera Repertory Theatre. Other recent performances include Musetta with Palm Beach Opera; her first performances as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with Atlanta Opera; Euridice in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo with the Handle & Haydn Society; and Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore with Wolf Trap Opera. The soprano made her debut in Japan as Frasquita in Carmen under the baton of Seiji Ozawa.
Alyson Cambridge has performed extensively in concert. Recent performances include Mahler's Symphony No. 4 with Sir Simon Rattle and the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra; Canteloube's Chants d'Auvergne with Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and the Baton Rouge Symphony; Brahms's Requiem and Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 with the Roanoke Symphony; Mendelsohn's Elijah with the Baton Rouge Symphony; Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the Stamford Symphony; and the Porgy and Bess Suite with Peter Nero and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Omaha Symphony. Alyson is also an active recitalist and has appeared in solo recitals and concerts in New York, Washington, D.C., Barbados and Hawaii.
Alyson Cambridge received both a B.M. in Voice Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a B.A. in Sociology from Oberlin College. With Oberlin Opera Theater, she performed the roles of Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, the Maiden in Henry Mollicone's Coyote Tales, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and Dido in Dido and Aeneas. During her summers at the Chautauqua Institution Voice Program, she performed the title role in Suor Angelica, Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti's The Medium, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and Metella in La Vie Parisienne. Ms. Cambridge continued her studies at the Curtis Institute of Music, pursuing a Master's of Music where she performed the role of Anna Gomez in Menotti's The Consul.
Alyson Cambridge is a graduate of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, which she was asked to join at the beginning of the 2003-04 season after being selected as a Grand Prize Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2003. Among numerous awards and prizes, Ms. Cambridge was also awarded First Prize in the 2003 Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation International Voice Competition, was a 2004 George London Foundation Award recipient, and received the Régine Crespin Award at the 2008 Elardo.
