"These two ascending stars in the musical firmament will take audiences on a journey through the stark and poetic Russian soundscape," says Michael Barrett, Chief Executive and General Director of the Caramoor Festival. "Lera Auerbach is a rare composer who is also an accomplished concert pianist. To hear her play her own world premiere composition with Alisa Weilerstein will be a vibrant summit of two brilliant artists and a remarkable treat for audiences."
Two remarkable artists come together in recital featuring original music by composer and pianist Lera Auerbach as well as standard Russian repertoire. This summer they thrilled audiences at the famed Caramoor Festival in New York and the Schleswig Holstein Festival in Germany. In the spring of 2009 they will appear in recital at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Individually each artist is exceptional. Lera Auerbach is a composer in demand throughout Europe, North America, and Asia as well as an accomplished pianist. She is the youngest author on the roster of Hamburg’s prestigious international music publishing company Hans Sikorski. Alisa Weilerstein, described by the Toronto Star as an artist who “plays classical music, but with the depth of soul and raw emotional energy of a diehard rocker," is one of the major cellists of her generation.
